Six men, including two longtime members of gangs affiliated with the Hells Angels, have pleaded guilty to charges filed against them as part of a police investigation into a drug-trafficking network that operated in eastern Montreal.
The men entered the guilty pleas Wednesday morning at the Gouin courthouse during a hearing before Superior Court Justice Marc David. By entering the guilty pleas, they avoided what was expected to be a lengthy trial scheduled to be held later this year.
Jean Winsing Barthelus, 39, pleaded guilty to three charges related to the case, including one count of conspiring to traffic in drugs. His lawyer, Chantale Gariepy, asked that Barthelus’s sentence hearing be delayed to January. The attorney said she and the Crown expect to present a recommendation that Barthelus be sentenced to an overall prison term of 57 months.
