Montreal welcomed its first IKEA store in 1982 at Place Alexis Nihon. It would move to St-Laurent in 1986 to a stand-alone store which stills stands today.
Space was first occupied by "Miracle Mart" which had 3 floors in 1967, but was reduced to be only at "Metro Level" in the 80s, the store was way not profitable due to the Plaza’s high rents.
We see part of Miracle Mart on the left, on the right, the office building which would be destroyed by fire in 1986 (the mall was spared…). A new office building was being built at the time.
