Conservative leader Andrew Scheer is hoping the Bloc Québécois meltdown and recent gaffes by the Trudeau Liberals will make his party more attractive for Quebec voters.
In an open letter published Tuesday, Scheer makes a pitch to the “nationalists who have had enough of the quarrels and existential crises of the Bloc and who believe in a strong Quebec within a united Canada.”
Scheer recalls the measures taken by the previous Harper government to recognize the specificity of Quebec, including the recognition of the “nation québécoise.”
The Tory leader also takes a swipe at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who “demonstrates daily his incompetence in leading the country and in placing our commercial relationships in peril.”
