Peel St. downtown was covered by a sea of police vehicles Monday after a man was shot in clothing boutique that had been targeted by a firebombing a year earlier.
The incident occurred at the Giorgio Gruppo Roma boutique across from the Cours Mont Royal shopping complex at about 11:45 a.m. Police said a masked man entered the store and fired once at an employee. The victim, a man of about 60 years old, was shot in the lower body. He was taken to hospital, but police do not fear for his life.
Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said witnesses told police the suspect, who was wearing a fluorescent construction vest, entered the store and fired one shot. The suspect left the gun outside the store and fled through a nearby shopping mall, she said.
