The family-owned bakery in east-end Montreal was the last place Laurent Duvernay-Tardif expected to be on this January day — not with the NFL playoffs just starting to percolate and after the Kansas City Chiefs finished first in the AFC West, winning 10 of 16 games.
“That’s the one thing with the playoffs, you always picture yourself going all the way to the end. You picture yourself being in Kansas City four more weeks. And then, suddenly, after the last whistle, the last second of the fourth quarter it’s like … I’m done,” Duvernay-Tardif said Thursday morning, addressing a media phalanx along with curious onlookers enjoying coffee and pastry.
“What am I doing … am I going home? Am I staying here? You realize the best place to be is home, with your family,” added the 26-year-old Mont-St-Hilaire native.
