A traffic jam that stretches 10 kilometres from the Charles de Gaulle Bridge back into Industriel Blvd. in Repentigny — and continues to grow — had turned the westbound lanes of Highway 40 into a study in gridlock after a five-car crash early Thursday.
The accident, which left two persons slightly injured, occurred in left-hand lanes of the highway at the Henri-Bourassa/Sherbrooke exit at 5:20 a.m.
The situation has been worsened by the fact one car stuck in traffic not far from the accident site ran out gas, while two other vehicles collided with each other farther west on the highway.
Motorists heading west are being urged to avoid the thoroughfare.
